Our Vision

Vive La Vallette is a charity established in 2019 to reinvigorate the facilities serving the bathing pools at La Vallette. The Bathing Pools will become a vibrant destination where everyone can feel welcome and valued. A place where people’s lives are improved.

By Easter 2022 the regenerated building will provide a welcoming venue to support health and wellbeing, educational opportunities, the celebration of the pools’ rich history, a love of our environment and plenty of social interaction.

Swimming will remain the core activity. The changing rooms will be thermally upgraded, there will be rinse showers outside and warm showers inside.

The year-round, indoor café will have an affordable menu, will provide a welcoming community space and will boast beautiful views across Havelet and the Little Russell.

Our aim is to ensure the facilities are relevant and well used and will make a positive contribution to the physical, mental and emotional health of our community

For the whole community

  • There will be a new café, open all year round.

  • The changing rooms will be thermally upgraded and the pools will continue to be free to all. We are working hard on creating stepless access into the Ladies’ Pool.

  • Building work is being carried out by RG Falla and is on schedule to be ready for early 2022.

  • During the redevelopment work, we have provided portacabins for swimmers to change and warm up.

  • We are fundraising and if you’d like to support this project, please contact us.

  • There have been some changes made to the parking arrangements and we will be looking at further solutions to increase access to the venue.

  • It’s more than sea water. There will be a range of activities and opportunities for the arts, sports, music and culture.

  • We are a not-for-profit organisation. All surplus funds will be reinvested back into the facilities, surrounding areas and community focused initiatives.

For the whole community

If you have a question we hope these FAQs provide you with an answer. If not, please get in touch!

Will the pools themselves become more accessible?2021-07-02T10:00:33+00:00

We want to enable the creation of step-less access into the pools. We are working hard on finding ways to do that. We are a not-for-profit organisation and any surplus funds will be reinvested into the area and community initiatives.

Will the Café be run as a charity?2021-08-02T16:58:57+00:00

Vive La Vallette LBG is a not-for profit organisation. Any surplus funds created at The Bathing Pools café will be reinvested back into the facilities and community focused initiatives.

What type of groups or organisations do you envisage using La Vallette?2021-08-02T17:05:51+00:00

We are working with and listening to other local charities, community groups and schools and have exciting plans in the pipeline. Current associations and initiatives are being developed with the Guernsey Sports Commission, the Health Improvement Commission, Guernsey Mind, Arts for Impact, Bright Beginnings, The Youth Commission, Guernsey’s primary schools and many others.

How important is the environment and biodiversity to your project?2021-08-02T17:10:21+00:00

It is important that we understand and support the natural environment surrounding The Bathing Pools. We have consulted organisations with extensive knowledge in this area and will provide focus for our community to learn more about the flora and fauna of the area and our local marine life.

Will there be disabled access into the building?2021-08-03T11:30:55+00:00

Yes. The building will be fully accessible for wheelchair users and those with mobility challenges. There will be a ramp from the road up the café and one down to the changing rooms. There will be a lift from the café level to the upper level flexible use pavilion space and the stunning views. There will be fully accessible WCs on the café and upper levels.

Our Vision

Work has started and is on track for the planned 2022 opening.

We have provided temporary changing rooms to minimise disruption to swimmers and maintenance work on the pools has started. You may have noticed that the parking near the pools is a little different, the States of Guernsey is exploring ways to maximise parking in the area.
